The Chameleon Car uses the Thermal and Visual Camouflage System Patent # 6,338,292 to control the surface temperature of an object. The modules, firmly attached to the underside of the object, transfers energy via the use of a thermocouple using the Peltier Effect. Heat can be pumped in or pumped out depending on the voltage supplied to the system. The resulting temperature is then measured by the system and regulated to achieve the desired temperature.

Thermochromatic paint (paint which turns different colors depending on it temperature) is then applied to the car body. When no color is wanted, all that is needed is a temperature below the threshold level of the paint-not u nlike the Coors beer bottle that turns blue when it is sufficently cold.

With simple electronics you can program the system to move the colors around the design. For example, you can make a flame appear at the front end of the door and move the flame down the side of the car by energizing the portion of the flame you wish to see. The possibilities are endless.
